But if you're expecting a good balance of both, you may find yourself disappointed to find the scale tipping heavily on the action side.Ĭheck out the teaser trailer for The Little Mermaid, the upcoming live-action reimagining of the animated musical classic. The combat action in Urban Assault is a great idea, and I'd love to see this idea injected into a more C&C-style game, even if it has to take a backseat to the strategy. At least the multiplayer aspect is balanced well - you can even keep tabs on which vehicle your buddy's controlling. The only thing that shakes up the action in later levels is the discovery of new vehicles - other than the different terrain and level of difficulty, most missions end up feeling like the last. Most of them are just "send out your troops and destroy the enemy" missions one after the other. There are quite a few scenarios to play but there's not much variety spread around. Unfortunately, the strategy portion is a little stale compared to the rest of the real-time strategy lot, so the only way you'll get enjoyment out of the game is if you jump in a vehicle and blast away at the enemy. There's a lot more emphasis on the action aspect than with other real-time strategy games, and in this case it's pretty cool since there's a huge load of different craft to pilot. The only real strategy is to be found in the way you arrange your troops into squads and send them on their merry way. Unlike the standard C&C-clone craze, there's no structure construction. Sure, you can let the AI fend off enemy troops, but in some levels its almost necessary to join in the fight since the added firepower helps out a great deal. The payoff here is that the vehicle you control increases in firepower and shield strength. At any time during a scenario, you can click on an individual vehicle and take control in a very sim-like first-person perspective. Urban Assault's hook is that it encourages you to become a participant in the battle, not just an observer. The scenario ends when you've eliminated all enemy troops and take control of the Jump Gate, a device that will teleport you and your troops into the next round. The more power you tap into, the more vehicles you can build. Each map is segmented into sectors, and taking over sectors is necessary to increase your station's power. Like Command & Conquer, the idea is to build up your troops and send them out to conquer territory.
